Description |
This pair of opera glasses has curved tapering aluminum barrels, covered with panels of brownish-colored mother-of-pearl. The objective lenses are achromatic triplets, contained in aluminum cells. It has aluminum tubes, triplet eyepiece lenses, and flared eyecups, made of segments of mother-of-pearl. The frames and all other metal parts are made of aluminum, which was considered very valuable at the time. Focusing is done with a thumbwheel, also made of mother of pearl. Inscribed on the aluminum cross piece nearest the eyecups is "12 lenses," referring to the total number of lenses, 4 times three triplets. It is signed "LeMaire Fabi Paris" on the face of both eyecups. |
